Custom E-commerce and Subscription Box Packaging

Updated

Custom e-commerce and subscription packaging is printed mailer boxes, shipping boxes, inserts, tape and labels for online stores and monthly subscription brands. It protects orders in the mail and turns delivery into a branded unboxing. Vorex helps direct-to-consumer brands in the USA and Canada order shipping packaging made to their exact size.

Custom E-commerce and Subscription Box Packaging

What e-commerce packaging covers

For an online store, the box is the first physical contact a customer has with the brand. It has to survive carriers and sorting centers, fit products closely to keep shipping costs sensible, and make a good impression when opened. Subscription brands also need a box that works month after month with changing contents.

Styles that suit online orders

  • Mailer boxes: the roll-end, tuck-front corrugated box most subscription brands use.
  • Shipping boxes: regular slotted cartons for larger or heavier orders.
  • Double wall boxes for heavy or fragile shipments.
  • Inserts and dividers to hold products in place.
  • Printed bags and mailers for soft goods.

Materials and finishes

Corrugated board is the standard for shipping. E-flute is thin, prints well and suits most mailer boxes; B-flute and double wall give more strength. Kraft outer liners look natural and hide scuffs, while white liners show bright color. Inside printing adds a message or pattern for the unboxing moment, and coated finishes help print resist scuffs in transit.

Design tips

Pick box sizes around your most common orders, since dimensional weight pricing from carriers makes empty space expensive. A few standard sizes usually beat many custom ones for fulfillment. Keep the outside design simple and leave room for the shipping label, then save the bigger reveal for the inside. Subscription brands often add a printed card or insert that changes each month while the box stays the same.

FAQ

Custom E-commerce and Subscription Box Packaging: common questions

What is the difference between a mailer box and a shipping box?
A mailer box is a one-piece corrugated box with a folding lid and tuck front, designed for a neat unboxing and often printed inside and out. A shipping box, or regular slotted carton, has four top flaps sealed with tape and is better for larger, heavier or bulk shipments.
What size mailer box should I use for my online store?
Measure your most common order as packed, including any insert or tissue, and add a little room. Most stores use two or three standard sizes for nearly all orders. Fitting boxes closely reduces dimensional weight charges and keeps products from moving.
Can I print inside my subscription boxes?
Yes. Inside printing is popular with subscription brands because customers see it right as they open the box, and it often appears in unboxing photos and videos. A pattern, welcome message or social handle works well. Ask for inside printing when you request a quote.
Are corrugated mailer boxes recyclable?
Plain corrugated cardboard is one of the most widely recycled packaging materials in the USA and Canada. Printing generally does not prevent recycling, but some plastic coatings or attached plastic parts can. Check your local program, and tell us if recyclability matters for your materials.
Can you ship boxes to my fulfillment center?
Yes. Our production partner can ship your boxes directly to your warehouse or third-party fulfillment center anywhere in the USA and Canada. Share the delivery address and any receiving requirements, and delivery timing is confirmed with your quote.
