Custom Display Boxes

Updated

Custom display boxes are printed cartons designed to sit on a counter or shelf and present several units of a product at once, often with a tear-away or fold-down front and a raised header card. They suit brands selling small items such as candy, lip balm, cosmetics, snacks and accessories in retail stores across the USA and Canada.

Custom Display Boxes

What is a display box?

A display box, also called a counter display or shelf-ready box, holds multiple retail units and doubles as a stand at the point of sale. Common features include an open or angled front, a printed header panel that rises above the products, and a base that keeps items upright. Some ship flat and are folded by the store, while others arrive filled and open with a perforated tear strip.

When to choose a display box

Display boxes work best for small, impulse-friendly products that sell in multiples: candy bars, lip balm, gum, hair accessories, phone accessories, samples and travel sizes. They help a new brand earn a spot near the register, where space is limited and a clear branded unit stands out.

Materials and finishes

Light products usually go in SBS paperboard, a smooth bleached board that prints bright, crisp color. Heavier products, or displays that ship already filled, often use E-flute corrugated, a thin fluted board that adds strength while keeping a good print surface. Kraft board suits natural and eco-minded brands. Gloss or matte lamination helps the display stand up to handling in a busy store.

Design tips

  • Lead with the header: put your brand and one clear message where shoppers look first.
  • Print the inside: once products sell, the inner walls show.
  • Plan the fill: tell us the size and count of the units so the box fits them neatly.
  • Check store rules: some retailers set limits on display size, so ask your buyer before you finalize.

FAQ

Custom Display Boxes: common questions

What is the difference between a display box and a shipping box?
A display box is made to sit on a counter or shelf and show products to shoppers, so it is printed and shaped for presentation. A shipping box is made to protect goods in transit and is usually plain. Many brands ship display boxes inside a plain outer carton to keep them clean.
Can a display box ship already filled with products?
Yes. Many display boxes ship filled and closed, then open into a display with a perforated tear-away panel. For this, a stronger board such as E-flute corrugated is common. Tell us the weight and count of your units so we can recommend a construction that holds up in transit.
How many products can a counter display hold?
It depends entirely on your product size and the space you want the display to take up. We make display boxes to your exact size, so send the dimensions of one unit and how many you want to show, and we will suggest a layout and reply with pricing.
Can you print the inside of a display box?
Yes. Inside printing is common on display boxes because the inner walls and base become visible as products sell. Many brands repeat the logo or add a short product message inside. Include your inside artwork when you request a quote, and it will appear on your digital proof.
Do you help with display box design?
Yes. Our team helps set your artwork on the dieline, checks that text sits clear of folds and cut lines, and sends you a digital proof before print. If you only have a logo and product photos, tell us and we will discuss what is needed to finish the design.
