Custom Shipping Boxes

Updated

Custom shipping boxes are corrugated cartons, usually regular slotted cartons with four top and bottom flaps, made to your exact size and printed with your brand. They suit online stores, wholesalers and manufacturers that need strong, cost-conscious boxes for shipping products to customers, retailers or warehouses.

Custom Shipping Boxes

What is a custom shipping box?

A shipping box is a corrugated carton built to protect products in transit. The most common design is the regular slotted carton: four flaps on the top and four on the bottom that meet in the middle and close with tape. It is simple, strong and efficient to produce, which makes it the workhorse of e-commerce and wholesale shipping.

When to choose a shipping box

  • You ship heavier products, multiple items or bulk orders.
  • You need an outer box to protect retail packaging inside it.
  • You want branded boxes without the cost of a more decorative style.
  • You send cases to retailers, distributors or fulfillment centers.

If the unboxing moment matters more than raw capacity, compare it with a mailer box, which opens like a gift.

Materials and finishes

Shipping boxes are made from corrugated board: a fluted middle layer glued between two flat liners. Common choices include:

  • B-flute or C-flute single wall for everyday shipping
  • Double wall board for heavy or stacked loads
  • Brown kraft liners for a natural look, or white liners for brighter print
  • One- or two-color logo print, or full-color graphics

Design tips

  • Simple one-color logos on kraft look clean and keep costs sensible.
  • Leave a clear area for the shipping label so it does not cover your branding.
  • Add handling marks such as "This side up" or "Fragile" where they help.
  • Size the box closely to your product to cut void fill and dimensional weight charges.
  • Consider printing a short message or social handle on the inside flaps.

FAQ

Custom Shipping Boxes: common questions

What is a regular slotted carton?
A regular slotted carton, often called an RSC, is the most common corrugated shipping box. All four top flaps and all four bottom flaps are the same length, and the long flaps meet in the middle when closed. It uses board efficiently and is sealed with tape, which is why so many shippers rely on it.
Single wall or double wall: which do I need?
Single wall corrugated has one fluted layer and handles most everyday parcels. Double wall has two fluted layers and is stiffer, so it suits heavy products, fragile goods and boxes that will be stacked in storage or on pallets. Tell us your product weight and how the boxes will travel, and we will suggest a board.
Can shipping boxes be printed in full color?
Yes. Shipping boxes can carry a simple one-color logo or full-color artwork on the outside, and printing on the inside is possible too. Full color on white board gives the brightest result, while kraft board gives a darker, natural look. We confirm print options and pricing with your quote.
How do I measure for a custom shipping box?
Measure the inside space you need: length, then width, then height, with the product or products packed as they will ship. Add a little room for padding if you use it. Always give inside dimensions, because the board thickness adds to the outside size.
Are corrugated shipping boxes recyclable?
Corrugated cardboard is one of the most widely recycled packaging materials in the USA and Canada, and plain printed boxes are generally accepted in curbside programs. Plastic tape, heavy coatings and attached plastic parts can affect this, so check your local rules if recyclability is important to you.
