Choosing the right cardboard box for your product

Cardboard is an everyday word for two different materials. Paperboard is a single thick sheet used for retail cartons, cosmetic boxes and food packaging. Corrugated cardboard has a fluted layer between liners and is used for shipping boxes and mailers. Knowing which one you need is the first step. Custom cardboard boxes for products sit on shelves and present your brand, while custom cardboard boxes for shipping protect orders in transit.

For ecommerce, a corrugated mailer or regular slotted carton in E-flute or B-flute is the usual choice. For retail, paperboard tuck end boxes and sleeves give sharp printing and fold flat for storage. Two piece and rigid boxes suit gifts. Kraft board gives a natural look and white board shows bright color. Sizing boxes to your product reduces filler and shipping volume, and inserts keep items from shifting.

Start with how the box will be seen. A shipping box needs a clear logo and a space for labels, while a retail box needs a strong front panel and product details. Print inside for a better unboxing. Boxes ship flat and our team can help with dielines and artwork. You approve a digital proof before any cardboard is printed or cut.

FAQ

Custom Cardboard Boxes: questions answered

Still unsure? Ask a packaging specialist.

What is the difference between cardboard and corrugated boxes?

Cardboard is a general term. Paperboard boxes use a single solid sheet and suit retail packaging. Corrugated boxes have a fluted middle layer that adds strength for shipping. Most shipping boxes are corrugated, while most product cartons are paperboard.

How do I make custom cardboard boxes to my size?

Measure your product's length, width and height, add room for any insert or padding, and send those inside dimensions with your quote request. We create a dieline to that size, place your artwork and send a digital proof before production.

Can I get custom cardboard boxes with my logo?

Yes. Logos can be printed on any panel, inside or out. Kraft board suits one- or two-color logos in dark inks, while white board allows bright full-color artwork. Foil and embossing are available on retail boxes for a premium detail.

Do you ship custom cardboard boxes to Canada?

Yes. Vorex delivers custom cardboard boxes across Canada and the USA. Boxes arrive flat to save space, and a specialist confirms delivery details for your address or fulfillment partner when sending your quote. Mention any receiving hours or dock requirements.

How do I get pricing for custom cardboard boxes?

Send your box style, dimensions, quantity, board preference and artwork through the quote form. A Vorex specialist replies with pricing, helps choose between paperboard and corrugated, and sends a digital proof for approval before production.
