What Is Reverse tuck end (RTE)?
Updated · Vorex Packaging
A reverse tuck end (RTE) is a folding carton style in which the top closure tucks in from the back and the bottom closure tucks in from the front, so the two flaps sit on opposite sides. It is one of the most common and economical retail carton styles for cosmetics, supplements and small products.
In a reverse tuck end box, the top tuck flap is hinged to the back panel and the bottom tuck flap is hinged to the front panel. This alternating arrangement lets more blanks fit on a printed sheet, which helps keep material use efficient.
Advantages
- Efficient layout on the press sheet.
- Easy to fold and close by hand.
- Works with windows, hang tabs and inserts.
Things to watch
Because the bottom flap folds from the front, the edge of the flap can show on the front panel's bottom edge. Brands that want a perfectly clean front sometimes choose a straight tuck end instead, especially for window boxes. Tuck ends hold light items well; for heavier products, an auto-lock bottom with a tuck top is sturdier. When designing, check the dieline carefully, as artwork on the flaps will face different directions.
