What Is E-flute?
Updated · Vorex Packaging
E-flute is a thin corrugated board with small, closely spaced flutes, about 1/16 inch (roughly 1.5 mm) thick. It gives a smooth printing surface and a slim profile while still adding crush resistance, which makes it the usual board for printed mailer boxes, retail boxes and subscription packaging.
Corrugated board is named by flute size, and E-flute is one of the finest common grades. Because the flutes are small and tightly packed, the outer liner is flatter than on larger flutes, so printed graphics look crisp and the board folds into neat corners.
Why brands choose E-flute
- Good print quality for logos, patterns and full-color designs.
- Takes up less space than B-flute, so boxes are lighter and store more compactly.
- Stronger and more protective than paperboard cartons of a similar look.
Limits
E-flute offers less cushioning and stacking strength than B-flute or double-wall board. It suits light to medium-weight products such as apparel, cosmetics, candles and gift sets. For heavier or fragile products, or for outer shipping cartons that will be stacked high, a thicker flute is often the better choice. Your supplier can suggest a flute after seeing the product's weight and size.
