What Is B-flute?
Updated · Vorex Packaging
B-flute is a corrugated board with medium-sized flutes, about 1/8 inch (roughly 3 mm) thick. It offers more cushioning, puncture resistance and stacking strength than E-flute while staying printable, so it is a common choice for shipping boxes, heavier mailers, display boxes and cartons for canned or glass goods.
B-flute sits between fine flutes such as E and larger flutes such as C. The bigger wave in the middle layer gives the board more thickness, which helps absorb knocks and resist crushing.
Where B-flute fits
- Shipping boxes for heavier products or items that need more protection.
- Mailers carrying glass, ceramics or dense products.
- Display boxes and trays that must hold their shape when loaded.
Trade-offs
The surface of B-flute is a little less smooth than E-flute, so very fine print details may show slight washboarding, the faint lines of the flutes under the liner. It also adds bulk and weight. Many brands use B-flute for outer shipping boxes and E-flute for printed retail-facing boxes. If you are unsure, describe the product and how it ships, and your supplier can suggest the right flute.
