About Vorex Packaging
Vorex Packaging is a custom packaging studio for brands in the USA and Canada, with offices in Abingdon, MD and Brampton, ON. Customers tell us what they sell and how it ships; our specialists handle the quote, place the artwork on the dieline and send a digital proof. Nothing prints until the customer approves it. Our production partner then prints, converts and ships the order. We make mailer boxes, folding cartons, rigid gift boxes, bags, labels and other printed packaging.
The role
We need a freelance structural designer who draws accurate dielines for custom sizes and styles that customers ask for. You turn a product size and a box style into a dieline our graphic designer can place artwork on and our production partner can cut. Work comes in per order.
What you will do
- Draw dielines for mailer boxes, folding cartons (tuck end, auto-bottom, sleeves), rigid boxes and inserts to the customer's inside dimensions.
- Choose board thickness, flute and tuck/lock details that suit the product and how it ships.
- Design inserts that hold the product in place (paperboard, corrugated or foam layouts).
- Write sample-ready specs: style, inside dimensions, material, caliper, glue points and score/cut lines.
- Check customer-supplied dielines before artwork goes on them.
- Answer questions from our specialists and the production partner about a structure.
What we need
- Experience drawing production dielines for paperboard or corrugated packaging.
- ArtiosCAD, Esko or another packaging CAD tool, or clean dielines built in Adobe Illustrator.
- A portfolio or samples of dielines you have drawn (customer names can be removed).
- Good written English and a few hours a day of overlap with US Eastern time.
- Based in the USA.
Nice to have
- Rigid box (set-up box) construction.
- Food packaging structures such as cake, bakery and takeout boxes.
- Making a physical prototype from a plotter or cutting table.
How we work
- Fully remote. You work from home anywhere in the United States.
- Contract work: you invoice us for the work you do; this is not an employee position with benefits.
- Work arrives with real customer orders, so volume moves with demand. We tell you honestly how much there is.
- We talk in writing (email and shared files) with a few hours of overlap with US Eastern time.
How to apply
Include a link to dieline samples or a portfolio, the CAD tools you use and your rate in USD. Fill in the form below; we read every application and reply to the people we would like to talk to.
