Custom Book-Style Boxes

Updated

Custom book-style boxes are rigid boxes with a front cover hinged along one side, so they open like a hardcover book. The cover often closes with hidden magnets. They suit premium gifts, cosmetics and fragrance sets, electronics, jewelry, launch kits and corporate gifts. Vorex makes book-style boxes to your exact size for brands across the USA and Canada.

Custom Book-Style Boxes

What is a book-style box?

A book-style box, also called a book box or clamshell box, has a tray that holds the product and a wrap-around cover joined along a spine. The cover swings open from the front, like a book, and usually closes with small magnets hidden under the paper. The structure is rigid chipboard wrapped in printed, textured or specialty paper.

When to choose a book-style box

Choose a book-style box when the opening moment matters: influencer and press kits, product launches, fragrance and skincare sets, watches and jewelry, premium electronics, stationery collections and corporate gifts. The cover gives you an inside panel for a message, and the box is sturdy enough that many people keep it for storage.

Materials and finishes

The core is rigid chipboard, a dense, thick paperboard that holds its shape without folding. It is wrapped in coated paper for full-color print, or in kraft, textured, linen-look or colored papers for a tactile finish. Foil stamping, embossing, debossing, spot UV and soft-touch lamination are popular on the cover. Inside, an insert of paperboard, foam, molded pulp or fabric-wrapped board holds each item in place.

Design tips

  • Design the reveal: the inside cover and the insert are seen together when the box opens.
  • Keep the cover clean: a single logo with a foil or emboss often looks stronger than busy artwork.
  • Map the insert: send product sizes so each piece has its own cavity.
  • Plan shipping: rigid boxes ship assembled, so an outer carton is usually needed.

FAQ

Custom Book-Style Boxes: common questions

What is the difference between a book-style box and a magnetic closure box?
The terms overlap. A book-style box describes the shape: a cover that opens from the side like a book. Many book-style boxes close with magnets, so they are also called magnetic closure boxes. A magnetic box can also be a flip-top that opens from the front edge.
Do book-style boxes ship flat?
Most rigid book-style boxes are assembled during production and ship set up, which takes more space in transit and storage. Some collapsible versions fold flat and snap into shape with magnets. If storage space matters, ask us about collapsible options when you request a quote.
What inserts work in a book-style box?
Common inserts are die-cut paperboard, foam, molded pulp and fabric-wrapped board. Paperboard and molded pulp suit brands that want an all-paper pack, while foam holds fragile items tightly. Send us the size of each item and we will recommend an insert and include it in your quote.
Are book-style boxes good for PR and influencer kits?
Yes. Book-style boxes are a common choice for PR and influencer kits because the opening is memorable on camera, the inside cover can carry a personal note, and the insert can present several products at once. They also look good in photos and unboxing videos.
How do I order custom book-style boxes?
